How do I properly care for a bouquet of flowers?
Even beautiful floral creations can lose their freshness over time. To ensure you enjoy it for as long as possible, proper care is crucial. Here are some tried and tested tips on how to optimally care for your bouquet.
- Change water: It is important to change the water in the vase every two days. This prevents bacteria from multiplying, which causes the flowers to wilt more quickly.
- Trim the stems: Cut about 2 inches off the stems of the flowers every two days. To make water absorption easier, the stems should be cut at an angle. To do this, use a sharp flower cutter or sharp scissors.
- Clean vases: Rinse the vase thoroughly when changing the water. This removes residual bacteria that can settle on the vase wall.
- Use flower fertilizer: Use the flower fertilizer provided or add a commercially available flower fertilizer to the water. Flower food contains nutrients and sugars that keep flowers fresh.
- Choose the right place: Do not place the vase near fruit bowls or ripe fruit. Some fruits, particularly apples and bananas, release ethylene, which can shorten the life of flowers.
- Avoid direct sunlight and drafts: Do not place the vase in a place with direct sunlight or near a heater or air conditioner.
Pay attention to temperature: Keep the flowers in a cool room. High temperatures accelerate the wilting of cut flowers. - Caring for individual stems: If a flower wilts faster than the others, remove it from the bouquet and place it in a separate vase with fresh water.
