History of the Hirslanden Clinic

The name Hirslanden goes back to the Hirslanden Clinic in Zurich, which opened in 1932 and was then located in the Hirslanden district (today Weinegg). The Hirslanden private clinic group was created at the beginning of July 1990 from the merger of the Hirslanden clinic with the four clinics Im Schachen in Aarau (opened in 1988), Beau-Site in Bern (opened in 1945), and Cecil - which were then part of the AMI group (American Medical International). in Lausanne (opened in 1931) and Im Park in Zurich (opened in 1986). The majority shareholder of the newly founded group was UBS.

In the years that followed, numerous other private clinics were acquired: in 1997 the Permanence clinic in Bern (opened in 1978), in 1998 the Bois-Cerf clinic in Lausanne, in 2001 the Belair clinic in Schaffhausen and the Andreas clinic in Cham, in 2002 the Am Rosenberg clinic in Heiden Birshof Clinic in Münchenstein and the Salem Hospital in Bern, the St. Anna Clinic in Lucerne in 2005, the Stephanshorn Clinic in St. Gallen in 2010, the swissana clinic Meggen Clinic in Meggen and the Clinique La Colline in Geneva in 2014 and the Linde Private Clinic in 2017 in Biel/Bienne. In 2018, Clinique La Colline merged with Clinique des Grangettes. In 2019, Hirslanden sold the Belair Clinic in Schaffhausen.

Group structure
There have been two significant changes in the group's shareholder base so far: In 2002, the English investor group BC Partners Funds took over the company from UBS. BC Partners sold the Hirslanden clinic group to the international clinic group Mediclinic International plc in 2007. Since then, Hirslanden has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Mediclinic International plc, a public company listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE). The most significant shareholder of Mediclinic International plc is Remgro Limited, a company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

In 2020, the Hirslanden Group began a cooperation with Medbase.

In May 2020, the subsidiary Hirslanden Venture Capital was founded at its headquarters in Opfikon, which, according to the commercial register, is intended to invest in particular in startups with innovative technologies and new business models.

What do I have to consider:

  • Please make sure that the patient is still in the hospital at the time of delivery so that we can deliver the flowers.
  • Patients who are still in the intensive care unit are usually not allowed to receive flowers until they have been assigned a room.
