In the mid-1970s, the idea of expanding the hospital emerged. In particular, consideration was given to replacing the home in Maggenberg Castle with a new nursing home and building a new operating theater. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 19, 1987, and the new infrastructure was inaugurated on December 1, 1990.

As part of the new construction, the existing buildings should also be renovated and enlarged. For this purpose, the Grand Council of the Canton of Friborg approved a loan of 40.5 million francs in autumn 1997. The new hospital was inaugurated on September 22, 2000. The last renovation work was completed in spring 2003.

Shortly afterwards, the Sense and See districts began discussions to set up a regional hospital with two locations in Tafers and Meyriez. A declaration of intent was signed for this purpose in August 2005 and a concept was presented in March 2006: the “Northeast Hospital” should be ready for operation by the end of the year. The project for a rapprochement was started in May, but was dropped shortly afterwards because of an even more extensive project:

The hospital in the Sense district was taken over by the Freiburg hospital network as part of the cantonalization of the hospitals on January 1, 2007 - like the Freiburg cantonal hospital, the hospital in the Seeviertel in Meyriez and the hospital in the south of Friborg (Billens, Châtel-St-Denis and Riaz). . A little later, the hospital network was renamed Freiburger Spital (HFR).

Today, more than ten years after the Freiburg hospital was founded, the HFR Tafers continues to serve the population of the Sense district: It is active in the areas of acute medicine, orthopedic surgery, geriatrics and geriatric rehabilitation (since the end of 2017 ) and has a day clinic and an emergency room that is open around the clock.
