History of the Lindenhof hospital Bern

In 1908, the school and hospital were transferred to independent ownership with the establishment of the Bern-based foundation called the “Red Cross Institutions for Nursing”.

In 1966, the new Lindenhof on Neufeld, on the northern outskirts of Bern, was built with 250 beds and a school building, more than twice as large, replacing the old properties on the Stadtbach.

The foundation offered basic training in nursing for over 100 years. She has issued around 6,000 diplomas and has had a lasting impact on thousands of nurses.

Since 2007, the federal government and the cantons have been responsible for vocational training, which meant that the foundation no longer had the basic training mandate. The educational offering was fundamentally revised and included further training courses, some of which were public but mostly offered internally. Today, further training is fully integrated into hospital operations and is only offered externally in exceptional cases.

The Swiss Red Cross (SRK) and the Red Cross Foundation for Nursing reorganized their relationship in 2011. The SRK and the Lindenhof Bern Foundation – its new name – remain closely linked to each other through a partnership agreement, and a fund funded by the foundation ensures the financing of joint humanitarian projects and SRK projects in the healthcare sector.

A milestone in the foundation's long tradition was the acquisition of Sonnenhof AG, with its two hospitals Engeried and Sonnenhof, in 2012. The aim of this acquisition was to meet the increasing demands on a hospital with a care mandate in the long term and to continue the tradition of the Lindenhof as important provider of health services for the population.

What do I have to consider:

  • Please make sure that the Patient is still in the Hospital at the Time of Delivery so that we can deliver the Flowers.
  • Patients who are still in the intensive care unit are usually not allowed to receive Flowers until they have been assigned a Room.
